About Us

Take This Bread seeks to engage and empower both tenants of Toronto Community Housing (TCHC), and the larger community.

We sell excellent bread products for competitive prices.

We also focus on training individuals to make bread and succeed in life.

All of our bread is baked by individuals who are economically and socially marginalized, and who are living in a TCHC community. The program runs for 12 months, with our participants receiving training in: baking (including field visits to other businesses); receiving their Food Handlers Certification; instruction in financial management; and meetings with a social worker on a monthly basis.

At the end of each baking session, our participants take home a loaf of bread. Making sure that the economically marginalized have access to healthy food is a source of pride for us.

Take This Bread is administrated by All Saints Church Community Centre and is located at:

315 Dundas Street East
Toronto, ON M5A 2A2

All Saints is a registered charitable organization (#107505059 RR0001).

Take This Bread is Directed by John Stephenson Jr. (Manager of Outreach).

Program Participants

All our participants live in Toronto Housing and are either receiving Ontario Works (Welfare) or are on the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP).

Many have been trained in the baking industry but have found it difficult to find jobs. Others are baking for the first time. One of our goals is to see our program participants move to employment with a bakery after the program.
